We have successfully completed the project: “Waste of electrical and electronic equipment, waste batteries and accumulators are hazardous to human health and the environment, Warsaw-Wawer 2016” with the main event held on 16 April in Warsaw-Zerzeń. The scope of the project was split into two components, one of which related to the hazards from waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE), and the other – to the hazards from waste batteries and accumulators.
We pursued the main objective through the achievement of specific objectives, which included:
1. Raising participants’ awareness about the harmful effects of waste of electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE), waste batteries and accumulators onhuman health and the environment.
2. Increasing the ability to cope locally (in household conditions) with WEEE and waste batteries and accumulators.
3. Promoting green attitudes among the participants and their natural closest surrounding.
We pursued these project objectives by preparing materials such as leaflets, posters, information for project partners, and by distributing them before waste collection. Owing to the communication of the parish priest to the local community, as well as 500 printed project brochures distributed among residents, we could enjoy a good turn-out during the collection of WEEE and waste batteries and accumulators. The leaflets and information materials on the hazards posed by WEEE and waste batteries and accumulators undoubtedly provided the necessary knowledge, and motivated participants to actively contribute to the collection.
The collection event was held on 16 April (Saturday) this year on the square in front of the Church of the Assumption, Warsaw-Zerzeń, from 10 am to 3 pm. The good weather certainly contributed to the high turnout of the collection, which totalled approx. 3 tonnes of waste equipment and waste batteries and accumulators.
More projects – including country-wide projects – will follow in other locations. We are looking forward to meeting you at these events and celebrating equally promising results.
