What is it about?

Project “Electronic Waste” implemented on the initiative of AURAEKO by Fundacja Odzyskaj Środowisko (Recover Environment Foundation) as well as MB Recycling waste management facility is a response to the needs within the scope of collecting and processing waste electric and electronic equipment (WEEE) as well as waste batteries and accumulators.

What to do so that e-waste, the amount of which in houses of city residents is immense, ends up at points of collection of waste equipment instead of municipal landfill sites? Points of Selective Collection of Municipal Waste (PSZOK) are located far away from city centers and centers of districts. As a result of such distance, a great deal of waste equipment and waste batteries do not end up at PSZOK, but in a trash bin for municipal waste. Such a situation limits the amount of waste equipment collected and increases the threat to the environment.

What activities are taken as part of the project?

The first activity that gives a possibility of dealing with WEEE practically are RED CONTAINERS in cities. It is important that red containers are also intended for collecting waste batteries and portable accumulators. Moreover, this activity has been extended to include a component related to establishing bee yards in cities in which red containers will operate. Elements of hives will be built from parts recovered from electronic waste.
The second activity is SCHOOL RECYCLING CENTER (SRC), that is a modern online educational platform for pupils, teachers and children’s parents who will participate in this project.

Other activities as part of the project

Furthermore, the project is to have an educational impact on city residents encompassing pre-school children, pupils, youth and adults as well. Various educational forms have been prepared in order to have an impact on such a huge community. Starting from the Online Recycling Center to in-class and occasional forms of environmental education with hives for bees made from recycle fractions recovered from waste equipment.
This interesting project is already underway, whereas the huge number of activities under the project will probably allow us to achieve educational objectives considerably.
