The 11th Final of the AURAEKO Poland-Wide Ecological Contest “Good Solutions for Electronic Waste – Leave Me in Good Hands 2019” took place on 14th June in the Copernicus Science Centre in Warsaw. As usual, all the room where the final was held was full of green T-shirts worn by members of Eco-Teams representing their schools.
Until today, 11 editions of the contest have been attended by 304 School Teams from the entire Poland. Those teams have been composed of 1,824 participants. The “harvest” has been abundant since – as part of the contest – we have collected: 556,159 kg of the used-up electrical and electronic hardware as well as 33,031 kg of the used-up batteries and accumulators. The above-quoted figures prove high contribution of the children and the youth participating in the contest supervised by their School Custodians in shaping pro-ecological attitudes of peers and adults in our society. The solemn final of the contest consisted in the meeting of the youth with their peers from other towns, quite distant sometimes, which gives the opportunity to get to know your competitors face-to-face but also to co-enjoy the celebration in which you are a part and during which you are awarded in the limelight. This may give rise to some stage-fright but is at the same time a very strong impetus awarding the hardship that the students, supervised by their Custodians, invested in the performance of the contest tasks. It may be presumed that the won prize for the hardship and enthusiasm in the performance of the contest tasks is going to shape a strong pro-eco attitude and – in the next step – pro-eco behaviour. Because these are the objectives that beacon to AURAEKO as the contest organiser. The presence of the representative of the Chief Inspectorate of Environmental Protection having auspices over the contest, the Business Sponsor – that is, LG Electronic Mława and many other VIPs has solemnised the event.
